WALK TO SCHOOL DAY – Wed, Oct 10

Join Shepherd’s PTA and the Health and Wellness committee, along with students, parents and staff for this “before school” event.

Participation is easy – just walk to school! Either walk from home along your customary route or meet us at one of three meet-up locations to join a “walking school bus” led by parent volunteers.

The meet-up locations are:

– Marvin Caplan Park at the corner of Alaska Avenue and Holly Street NW. The walking school bus leaves promptly at 8:10 am. Principal Brawley will be the walking captain of this group.

– The triangle park at the corner of Luzon Avenue and Van Buren Street NW. This walking school bus leaves promptly at 8:00 am. WE NEED A WALKING CAPTAIN HERE.

– Lowell Field area at the corner of Kalmia and 17th Streets NW. This walking school bus leaves promptly at 8:10 am. Liz Bradley will be the walking captain of this group.

WE NEED YOUR HELP:

If you’re interested in volunteering to help, please contact Karen Sloan at [email protected].

VOLUNTEERING AT FALL FEST!

Classes have been busy choosing activities and booths to support, so PLEASE be on the look out for sign up links from your Room Parents to request volunteers for shifts. We need everyone – so please donate at least 30 mins of your time to help make this festival work smoothly and make as much money as possible!

Uniform Exchange at Fall Fest

Bring in your clean, gently used school uniform clothing items between October 1st thru October 12th and place them in the boxes in the main atrium area under the PTA bulletin board. On October 20th during Fall Fest, there will be free uniform items to take home. All sizes are accepted and leftovers will be donated to the school after Fall Fest.

Contact Kori Heyward @ (240) 643-2238 to volunteer at the Uniform Exchange table during Fall Fest and look for the Uniform Exchange table!

HEALTH AND WELLNESS TIP OF THE DAY!

Family Wellness Tip from the Shepherd PTA Health & Wellness Committee: It is that time of year again to get a flu shot. Everyone needs a flu vaccine – it is the best defense against getting the flu and spreading it to others! Many employer health plans cover flu shots at no charge, and most major pharmacies offer flu shots as well.

UPCOMING IMPORTANT DATES:

– Fri, Oct 5 – PICTURE DAY (wear uniforms, please; Spring pics will be where students can wear clothing outside of the uniforms)

– Wed, Oct 10 – Walk to School Day

– Sat, Oct 20 – Shepherd Fall Fest!

– Fri, Nov 2 – Coco MOVIE NIGHT at Shepherd Elem
