HAPPY SUMMER!

This will be the last PTO Bulletin email of the school year. Whew – we made it! We’d like to thank the outgoing PTO Board, LSAT reps and the MANY, MANY parent and teacher volunteers we’ve had over the last two years who’ve helped us do Fall Fest, Auction/Gala, Movie Nights, Field Day, Book Fair, Restaurant Nights, Holiday Parties, Teacher Appreciation, School Beautification Day, Meet the Teacher Night, grant writing, PTO meetings, website revamping, Shepherd gear designs and many, many other events and initiatives we’ve done together. You all helped us keep things moving and growing for our kids and school community. We’re DEFINITELY looking forward to getting back together in REAL LIFE and engaging with our AMAZING community once again!

Again, congrats to the new PTO Board and LSAT reps! We’ll be doing floor nominations for the two open PTO positions (Co-President and Assistant Treasurer) at our first meeting of the school year in Sept. And we’re looking for Committee Chairs too. More details to come there soon.

A reminder that this is your last chance to leave a note for Ms. Johnson on her Kudoboard so we can share with her as we end the school year. Leave your final notes by this Friday.

STAR ACHIEVERS BEFORE AND AFTER CARE BACK FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR!

We’re excited to announce that we are now accepting enrollment for 2021-22. This pandemic has brought about many unprecedented changes, most notably within our scholars.

This coming school year Star Achievers will have a major focus on reintegrating our scholars back into the classroom and community. We will take on a proactive approach towards bridging the social and emotional gaps that were created during the pandemic. There will be a focus on helping scholars develop positive and healthy relationships with one another. In addition, we will do our best to help shorten the learning curve of instructional deficiencies that was experienced during distance learning.

INTERESTED IN REVAMPING INTERIOR SPACES?

Dr. Hedlund is interested in parent volunteers who can help re-think and redesign the front office and atrium. We’d love some help, so let us know if you’ve got some experience or interest in helping! Email us at shepherdptapresident@gmail.com.

PASSING OF MRS. YOLANDA BUSH

We sadly must share an update that Mrs. Yolanda Bush, amazing caregiver and teacher with Star Achievers for many years, has died of complications from cancer. Many Shepherd Elementary parents from the past decade will remember her as a fixture in the school’s Star Achievers program, especially in before care. Even though her son Caleb graduated from Shepherd in 2012, she remained active at the school for several years afterward. She loved every child as if they were her own.

Nothing as of yet has been planned for a wake, funeral, or gravesite ceremony. Messages of condolence may be sent to her husband: Joseph Bush, at 5809 5th St. NE, Washington, DC 20011.

ATTENTION RISING 6th GRADE FAMILIES: DEAL Q&A AND SCHOOL WALK THROUGH – SAT, JUNE 26

Join us for a self-guided tour of Deal and an outdoor Q&A session with Principal Neal on Saturday, June 26th from 10am – Noon. Representatives from the Alice Deal Community Association will also be available to answer questions.  Please sign up here if you plan to attend.
