Shepherd Tutoring Program

The Shepherd Tutoring Program is in its 22nd year at Tifereth Israel Congregation. Between 5 and 6 pm most Sunday nights, members of Tifereth Israel and the Shepherd Park community are available to tutor students across subject areas at no cost to parents.

Winter Reading Festivities – Dec 21

On Friday, December 21st, students will engage in various reading festivities led by our school librarian, Ms. Anderson and Ms. Pethtel. All students are welcome to wear their pajamas to school!

Shepherd Science Fair – Jan 31

All third through fifth grade students should have a received an information packet, including a timeline, for their science fair projects. The science fair will take place on January 31st at the NOAA building in downtown Silver Spring.

Pizza Hut Book It! Pizza Coupon K-5 and Beanstack (October 2018 – March 2019)

All K-5 Shepherd Students are also eligible to receive a free Pizza Hut Book It! coupon for a personal pan pizza during the months of October-March. Please support your student by assisting them with using Beanstack to log in a minimum of four grade-level appropriate books to receive their free Pizza Hut Book It! coupon. Students can access Beanstack using this link: https://shepherdes.beanstack.org/reader365. Their login in credentials are their Student ID# and birthday.

Six Flags Reading Ticket Program – Dec 19 deadline

All Kindergarten through fifth grade students are eligible to participate in the Six Flags Reading Ticket Program by logging at least 6 hours of reading time on their Six Flags Reading Log Sheet. All students should have received reading logs from their teacher, which requires a parent’s signature. All logs should be given to Ms. Anderson. The deadline to submit the reading logs is December 19, 2018.

YEARBOOK PHOTOS WANTED

Mrs. Holt is seeking pictures from parents and teachers of Shepherd field trips, parties, events and projects for this year’s yearbook. Please email photos to [email protected].

Staff Spotlight of the Week – Mrs. Bonham

Mrs. Bonham has been a Speech Pathologist in DCPS for 30 years! Currently, she serves the students of Shepherd and Tubman Elementary schools. Ms. Bonham recently started reading Becoming by Michelle Obama. One day, she would love to travel to Africa. Mrs. Bonham and her husband established an endowment fund at Michigan State University for research in the area of sickle cell disease.

Office Hours

In order to foster ongoing communication and a greater sense of community, I will continue to have office hours every Monday and every other Friday from 8:00 – 10:00 am. There is no appointment necessary.
