Walkability Study at 16th and Kalmia St NW – Friday, April 29th

A group of concerned parents have been in touch with DDOT about the lack of crossing guards in our neighborhood. There has been an increase of traffic on 16th street as people head back to the office and are less likely to take metro and with the closure of Beach Drive.

The good news is they have budgeted for additional guards, but a formal request will need to be put in by a school. A part of this application includes an informal “traffic study” at the proposed location.

This Friday morning (April 29) from 8-9 am we will be doing a count of the foot traffic crossing. If you have a student at Shepherd or Lowell and this is a route you currently or would like to take, please consider walking to school this Friday to be in the official count.

If you are not able to make it this week, but would benefit from a guard at this location please contact Danielle.Walton@gmail.com. Thanks in advance for your support!

Support the Shepherd 180 Fund

Help the Shepherd PTO fund lots of great events, initiatives, and extra circular efforts at Shepherd this year by donating to the 180 Fund.

It’s called the 180 Fund because there are 180 instructional days in the school year and your donation of a dollar a day per student helps the PTO support sending students on offsite field trips, funding teacher educational wish lists, putting on school plays and concerts, updating outdoor playground equipment, funding additional academic supports, and hosting school-wide events! This budget really helps us give our students even more unique, meaningful and enriching opportunities each year.

Any contribution is always much appreciated. And as a reminder, your contribution is 100% tax deductible. Thanks for your support – we’re looking forward to getting back to BETTER THAN NORMAL!
