Principal's Newsletter

Dear Families,

Thank you for your patience as we completed our plans for Term 4 and launched our plans for the summer. There are a lot of logistics in place, and we were moving quickly to fill seats and communicate changes. If we made an error that impacted your family or miscommunicated something along the way, I am sorry. I provided the Term 4 shifts again at the end of this message, and Ms. Rottman is in the process of sending grade level emails to families returning to the building. Please continue to reach out if you have any questions, and thanks again.

Happy Spring Break! Just a reminder that DCPS is not in session next week for students. Monday is a professional development and records keeping day. Tuesday through Thursday are Spring Break, and Friday is Emancipation Day.

I am excited to share that Ms. Romero will be out for maternity leave in early May. This week, she helped us interview and hire Ms. Brenda Brown who will serve as a temporary teacher in her absence. Ms. Brown has been teaching for 14 years, and her last role was as a third through fifth grade Math teacher. She has held a variety of leadership positions and taught an excellent model lesson for us via Teams. We are excited to have her join the team.

Some important announcements follow. I will see many of you in person in the upcoming week. We will have over 200 students report in person at Shepherd in Term 4!

Second Grade Historians

Ms. McIntyre’s second graders wrapped up their activism unit and women’s history month with some work around women’s suffrage. They continue to use the just 6 words strategy learned during Living Through History Cornerstone unit.

Students watched a video on women’s suffrage and responded with these six words:

  1. women couldn’t vote it was unfair
  2. women were brave to stand up
  3. thank you ladies you did it
  4. women couldn’t vote so they fought

The class received a shout out from Scott Abbott, Director of Social Studies for DCPS:

Shout out to Evelyn McIntyre (Shepherd ES) for leveraging the “Just 6 words” strategy from the Living Through History Cornerstone to engage her 2nd grade students in a virtual lesson about women’s suffrage for Women’s History month.

Queridas familias,

Siguen algunos anuncios importantes.
