Dear Families,

Earlier this week we learned that we passed our IB evaluation that was conducted in early December. The team reported that we had addressed the recommendations from the last evaluation and issued us commendations and recommendations on our program. I have attached the report for those who are interested. Our IB Coordinator, Avani Mack, did an outstanding job of documenting our work and coordinating interviews and documents required for the process. Thank you to her, our entire staff and all families who participated. It is wonderful to have good news!

Term 4

Many of you are aware that the Mayor relaxed some restrictions in her Covid-19 situational update on March 15^th. You can find the Mayor’s presentation here. Guidelines for schools were included, notably removing the cap on cohort sizes. I am awaiting further guidance on what that means for Shepherd Elementary and will communicate as soon as there is clarity. Regardless, the demand for in person learning seats is very high. 69% of the 259 families that completed the survey responded that they would send their children to school if they were offered a seat for in person learning.

When we analyzed the data, demand was high across all grades, with at least 35 families in each grade wanting to return.

With this data in mind, I intend to open up additional classrooms in Term 4 since A Wing will reopen in early April. Please stay tuned for more information. I do not have additional details to communicate at this time.

A principios de esta semana nos enteramos de que aprobamos nuestra evaluación del IB que se llevó a cabo a principios de diciembre. El equipo informó que habíamos abordado las recomendaciones de la última evaluación y nos emitió elogios y recomendaciones sobre nuestro programa. Adjunto el informe para los interesados. Nuestro coordinador del IB, Avani Mack, hizo un trabajo excelente al documentar nuestro trabajo y coordinar las entrevistas y los documentos necesarios para el proceso. Muchos de ustedes saben que el alcalde relajó algunas restricciones en su actualización de situación de Covid-19 el 15 de marzo. Puede encontrar la presentación del alcalde aquí. Se incluyeron directrices para las escuelas, en particular, se eliminó el límite sobre el tamaño de las cohortes. Estoy esperando más orientación sobre lo que eso significa para Shepherd Elementary y me comunicaré tan pronto como haya claridad. Independientemente, la demanda de asientos de aprendizaje en persona es muy alta.
