Teacher Appreciation Week

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week, and it is challenging to reinvent faculty lunches, handmade cards and flowers cut from the garden. I have created a schedule for the week, and I hope you will participate in celebrating our incredible staff.

Monday — Students show appreciation
If you would like, download the I LOVE MY DCPS TEACHER poster attached to this email and have them hold it up during class, or have your student make his/her own sign. Have your student post a note or appreciation through TEAMS or email.

Tuesday — Parents show appreciation
Write your student’s teacher(s) an email or post in TEAMS. Let them know you appreciate them.

Wednesday — Classes show appreciation
Room parents I am leaning on you here. How can your class show appreciation for their homeroom teacher? Be creative!

Thursday – Shepherd Spirit Day — Appreciate our school community
Wear your favorite Shepherd garb!

Friday – Sing for faculty — Singers needed
Join us to serenade teachers. If your child sings well, please contact me immediately. I will take parents who can sing too, but I definitely can’t pull this off alone. We will rehearse twice this week in preparation.

Enrollment for SY20-21

DCPS is excited to open enrollment for School Year 2020-2021 to our families and welcome new students to our community. This year, we are launching an electronic submission process for SY20-21 enrollment, and the enrollment packet can be found here. My School DC has also extended the deadline for families to claim their matched seat until Monday, June 15 at 5:00 pm.

As always, we are ready and eager to support you with any enrollment questions you may have, especially if you need help with the new electronic submission process. World Language Opportunity

If you would like your student to receive one-on-one sessions for Spanish or French, please reach out to Madame Gadie or Senor Hernandez. If there is enough interest, the one-on-one sessions will become small groups. They are eager to converse with your students!

In addition, please join me in congratulating Madame Gadie who recently earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership with emphasis on Effective Schools!

In closing, thank you to those of you who reached out to congratulate me on my appointment as principal for the 2020-21 school year. I am thrilled to take the position. Shepherd is such a special community, and it truly is a privilege to work with you and our staff. Go Mustangs!
